Corn Gluten is a natural product from the corn processing industry and safe for the environment. It won't be harmful to children and pets, even immediately after application. Harmful chemical weed control use can be reduced or eliminated. Research studies have proven corn gluten meal effective as an all natural pre-emergent weed control. Repeated use of Corn Gluten will control the emergence of crabgrass, clover, dandelions, lamb's quarter, foxtail, purslane creeping bentgrass, pigweed, barnyard grass, and Bermuda grass. However already established weeds will not be killed. WeedBan was once registered with the USEPA as an herbicide. It is so safe that the registration is no longer required. Your children and pets can play on your lawn immediately after application.
It is not fully understood by the researchers which ingredients actually control the seed germination. It is known that Corn Gluten is an extremely effective product when applied twice a year, in the Spring and Fall when weed seeds germinate and every year after you begin the program. Quite simply put, the seeds where Corn Gluten is applied never develop secondary feeder roots, thus the weeds cannot develop and live.

Some people have asked if they can use this as their regular fertilizer regiment. The answer is yes but, you'll want to apply some greensand along with it, at least once a year, because, it has no potash in it, a necessary ingredient for lawns and most plants. Jersey Greensand is a one of the best products around for adding potash cheeply to large areas. Use about one 50 pound bag of Jersey Greensand per 4 bags of Weed Ban and you will have a very nice lawn program going.
If you have a phosphate deficiency, then add some rock phosphate or Bone Char. Rock Phosphate takes a long time to break down so, you will only have to add some every other year in most cases. Use the same ratio 4 bags of Weed Ban to 1 bag of Rock Phosphate or Bone Char.

Pictured here is a brand called Weed-Ban. We may ship you generic corn gluten or another brand which ever is available at the time of your order. It's all the same thing that people put into their own bags and brand it themselves. There is no difference between any of them. The Organica Lawn Program uses corn gluten as one of many ingrdients in their formulas.
Fertilizer Characteristics of Corn Gluten:
The 8.81% insoluble nitrogen and 1.19% water soluble nitrogen in Corn Gluten makes it an excellent slow release fertilizer and winterizer as well. Since it is slow release, it will feed your lawn over a long period of time. Use as a stand alone product or in combination with the Organica Lawn Fertilizer program.
A low nitrogen fertilizer may be applied, 6 to 8 weeks after WeedBan's application or at the same time. Tests at Iowa State have shown that Corn Gluten, applied twice a year over a 3 year period on a heavily crabgrass infested lawn, can reduce crabgrass by as much as 91%.
Application Rate:
We recommend an early spring and a fall application but, if you can water your lawn in summer or have enough rain, use it all season long if you want. The application rate for the lawn is 20 lb. per 1000 square ft. For lawns using weed ban regular, use a drop type spreader with the setting about 2/3 open. This works with a drop spreader and a broadcast spreader. After application the lawn or garden should be deeply watered. You can play on and use the lawn right after application, as the stuff is non-toxic and safe for kids, pets and everyone else. Do not use product at least 60 days prior to seeding or on newly seeded lawns because it kills all seeds including grass seed. Wait until after the first mowing to apply it on new lawns. On shrubbery and flower beds, and gardens, work it into the top 2 - 3 inches of the soil. The WeedBan does not appear to affect transplants or bulbs, but it does kill all seeds.
