Tree Tanglefoot Insect Barrier
Tree Tanglefoot Insect Barrier is a non-drying, sticky compound that forms a barrier against climbing insects. It is composed of all natural gum resins, vegetable wax and castor oil; contains no harmful chemicals or pesticides; is effective against insects that must climb the tree trunks to feed, mate or deposit eggs and is listed by the Organic Material Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic gardening.

Tree Tanglefoot helps protect valuable trees and reduce future populations of pests such as gypsy moths, cankerworms, pecan and root weevils, ant, tent and army caterpillars, tussock moths, webworms, black vine weevils and climbing cutworms.

  • No chemicals or pesticides - all natural ingredients
  • Long lasting, weather-proof protection
Protects fruit, shade and woody plants from insects
  • Ready to use
  • Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listed for use in organic gardening

Before applying Tree Tanglefoot, we recommend wrapping the tree trunk with Tanglefoot Banding Material. . Banding material extends the life of Tree Tanglefoot, makes removal easy and prevents any possibility of the Tree Tanglefoot staining the trunk of the tree.

  • Wrap Tanglefoot Barrier band around trunk or paint onto the red sphere's below. On rough bark trees plug all gaps under band with cotton batting or similar material. Do not apply directly to young, thin-barked trees or to bearing fruit or nut trees. Apply Tanglefoot Insect Barrier on banding material using a putty knife or disposable paddle to spread 3" (7.62cm) by 1/16" (1.59mm) thick. When sticky areas become covered with insects or debris, remove banding and repeat. Remove bands at end of season.
Remove Tree Tanglefoot from tools with mineral spirits. Remove from hands or skin with baby oil or citrus cleaners then wash with soap and water.
  • Tree Tanglefoot Pest Barrier is an extremely sticky, nondrying, resinous compound used to encircle trees in order to effectively stop caterpillars (such as Gypsy moth larvae), ants, and other pests from climbing upward. This product may also be used to control ants and other climbing pests on greenhouse bench legs and raised beds, as well.
  • It is 100% effective, in temperatures of 50-100°F, if applied in continuous band around trunk of a tree and kept clean of captured pests and debris.
  • For certain moths which are unable to fly, such as the female European Gypsy moth — the one that plagues the east coast— Tree Tanglefoot Pest Barrier will effectively exclude them from reaching the tree’s upper parts to lay eggs, and thus, the beneficial insects and hunters and gatherers can physically get the eggs down low.
  • The caulking gun is also effective for coating the strings used to support greenhouse tomato plants. This is useful in preventing the mobilization and spread of spider mites.
Red Sphere Apple Maggot Traps
Use for large orchard monitoring or home orchard mass trapping.
The apple maggot, cherry fruit fly and blueberry maggot fly are all attracted to this trap's shape and the specific wavelength of red. (No pheromone lure needed.) Sticky coating captures insects. Plastic snap together construction gives long service life. Use for orchard monitoring or small scale home orchard mass trapping. These are simple, nontoxic and effective in keeping the bugs off of your fruit.

Coat each sphere with tanglefoot and hang on the tree branches. Hang one trap per 100 apples. About five is required for mature, well maintained apple trees. Traps should be hung by July 1. When an insect lands on the sticky sphere, it becomes trapped and dies. Check traps periodically. Traps become ineffective when they are covered with insects and/or debris. Clean off the spheres and reapply the glue as needed. Removing the glue can be challenging. Use vegetable oil for the best results.
