Cottonseed Meal:
Cottonseed Meal (6-1-1)
The Ground Meal From Cottonseeds.
Its analysis is 6-1-1 or better. The nitrogen is almost 85 percent water insoluble. Cottonseed meal will acidify soil at a value of 9 lbs CaCO3 (calcium carbonate or pure lime) per 100#. In other words, it takes 9 lbs of lime to neutralize the acidity caused by 100 lbs of Cottonseed Meal.
Cotton Seed Meal can be used as is as a lawn and plant fertilizer. There was a time when cotton seed meal was used exclusively as an organic lawn fertilizer, before the advent of the multiple ingredient formulas available today. It's still used as a nitrogen and protein formula in some of today's lawn and garden fertilizers. When used on acid loving plants, use without applications of lime or pH boosters. If you have alkali soil, use it as is to lower the pH.
Cotton Seed Meal is an excellent source of nitrogen for shrubs and trees. It can be finely sprinkled under the branch spread area of the tree or shrub.
Apply about 5 lbs./100 ft.2 for planting beds.
