Coco - COIR
Finally, an Eco-Alternative to Peat Moss. Coir Fiber is a renewable, nontoxic, sustainable growing medium.
Coir or cocopeat or 'coir fiber pith' or coir dust are several terms are used to describe material produced from coconut husks. Coir is produced as a by-product when coconut husks are processed for the extraction of the long fibers from the husk. It is the binding material that comes from the fiber fraction of the coconut husk. It has long been used in the making of rugs, and weaving into landscape erosion control mats.
Coir fiber is an excellent potting medium for starting seeds and potting plants. A by-product of the coconut harvest, coir fiber is a renewable resource. It holds 10 times its weight in water and does not shed water like peat moss and it isn't produced by destroying wet lands like the use of Canadian Peat Moss does. If anything you're helping out when you buy this instead of peat moss because they used to just throw the extra resource into the river or let it rot along the banks and it polluted the water while it broke down. Using it mitigates that problem and allows the farmers who produce it to make a some more money off of a product they used to view as waste.

Compressed Coir Bricks
Coir has a very low salt content that is available in 1/2" double-sieved long fibers to reduce dust and give ample space within the mix. With longer fibers and reduced dust, growers will experience an optimal air to water ratio, which is vital for strong root development. Classic Coir Bricks are a compressed coconut-fiber growing medium that expands to approximately 1/3 cubic foot when soaked in water.

Compressed Coir Bales
Coir organic growing medium consists of three different types of compressed coco coir. This high-quality, low sodium growing medium is an environmentally-friendly alternative to sphagnum peat moss. When hydrated with water, Coir rapidly expands, saving time and effort. growing mediums can be used exclusively by themselves, blended together or mixed with expanded clay pellets, perlite or topsoil.
Each block is a completely renewable resource made from 100% natural recycled fibers of the coconut husk. A micro sponge effect dramatically increases the water retention of soil and improves aeration, ensuring optimal root growth and maximum water and nutrient uptake for lawn grasses and container and garden plants. Use anytime you have a need for a potting medium. To use, simply fill a bucket or wheel barrel with water and place one block in it and the fiber will be ready to use in about an hour.
